Fun and good times for SCHA residents
Creating opportunities for our residents to come together and enjoy themselves offers numerous benefits.
These activities can help reduce social isolation, foster a sense of belonging within a caring community, and improve both mental and physical health.
Below are some recent examples of activities at Phoenix House and Trinity Apartments.
Valentine’s Day

Love was in the air on Valentine’s Day, when Trinity Apartments got together with their in-house care provider to put on a special themed lunch.
A Valentine’s Day hamper was also up for grabs, and Wayne was delighted to be the proud winner.
Spring afternoon tea
Making the most of the early spring sunshine, residents at Trinity Apartments enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea in March.
A selection of sandwiches, cake and fresh scones served with jam and cream, washed down with fine tea or freshly brewed coffee, was on offer. Everyone had a brilliant afternoon. Sam and the catering team did a wonderful job putting this very special treat together.
Easter

Trinity Apartments’ Easter egg tombola was a sweet success.
There were lots of smiles, surprises, and chocolatey wins!
Everyone had a fantastic time.
St Georges Day
Residents decorated cakes and had lots of messy fun! Everyone enjoyed tucking into their cakes after lunch.
The 80th anniversary of VE Day
Back in May, Phoenix House celebrated VE Day 80 with a themed street party lunch and afternoon entertainment.
Nick Twigger, Phoenix House Scheme Manager, commented, “We had Fran to entertain the residents in the afternoon and lunch was a traditional street party. All of the table mats were made by Jeanette, a resident. They could be kept as a keepsake souvenir.
“In our reception area, we had a DVD playing 1945 VE Day in colour, to add to the whole day of remembering. We also had a red lamp of peace light remembering all conflicts, and we planted a rose of peace, which is growing well and blooming at our main entrance.”
Meanwhile, Trinity Apartments came together for a moving and joyful VE Day celebration. They honoured this historic occasion with music, food and sharing memories – all showing true community spirit. Hafiza Khanam, Trinity Apartments Scheme Manager, described the celebration as magical.
May also marked Mental Health Awareness Week

Phoenix House hosted a ‘Wear it Green’ fundraising event and invited residents from Cranmore Court, SCHA’s nearby supported housing scheme, to celebrate the event as part of our SCHA community.
Residents and staff donated loose change totalling £50.00 to the Mental Health Foundation. They also held a quiz, which was enjoyed by residents.
Trinity Apartments had an inspiring talk from guest speaker Jo Marsden. Residents shared stories and past experiences, which were uplifting and inspired everyone to talk more. The event was a huge success, and they are planning more mindfulness sessions as a result.
This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme was ‘community’. This provided a great opportunity for us to celebrate the power and importance of a safe, positive community for mental health and wellbeing.
Welcoming summer
These green-fingered Phoenix House residents got involved in a spot of gardening. They planted up the community plant pots, bringing a bright and cheery welcome to the entrance for everyone to enjoy.
